JCR, NBC and MCN announce a new partnership for the distribution of education to drive hospital safety and quality

March 31, 2009. Oak Brook, IL and Denver, CO

Joint Commission Resources (JCR), NBC Digital Health Network and MCN Healthcare (MCN) today announced a new partnership for the distribution of a continuing education series to help hospitals keep up with The Joint Commission's standards and National Patient Safety Goals. The ultimate goal of the series is to provide readily accessible information which hospitals can use in creating a culture of quality and patient safety by focusing on continuous improvement.

The education series, available via satellite and web-based training through the Joint Commission Resources Quality and Safety Network (JCRQSN), leverages the clinical expertise of JCR, the digital media and programming expertise of NBC Digital Health Network, and the distance education expertise of MCN Healthcare to provide hospital executives and clinical staff up to date information. Programs feature interaction with experts from JCR as well as case studies and examples of how hospitals across the country are implementing key initiatives to improve the quality of patient care. JCR is a not-for-profit affiliate of The Joint Commission.

"Every hospital determines for itself the best way to provide high quality patient care, and it's an ongoing challenge to keep up with changing standards and care initiatives. We have designed this series to help health care organizations who are constantly looking for ways to demonstrate compliance and to evaluate and improve their processes," said Chuck MacFarlane, FACHE, CAE, Vice President of Learning, JCR.

"The JCRQSN series helps our organization keep up to date on changes," states Joni Vaughn, RN, MSN, Performance Improvement Coordinator, Sanford USD Medical Center.  "Beyond that, it provides a method for easy dissemination of information and implementation strategies to key stakeholders throughout the facility.  The information provided from these experts is invaluable."

MCN Healthcare will be the exclusive online distributor of the JCRQSN series, providing administration and educational content through MCN's edept Learning Management System. The edept platform provides easy to navigate access to live webcasts, video archives, program resources, continuing education tests & certificates, and administrative and reporting tools. "We've had 21 years of experience learning what works for hospitals and what doesn't when it comes to continuing education and information," said Amanda Valeur, President, MCN Healthcare. "If it isn't easy to use in the hospital setting, the best education in the world won't make its way into practice."

The JCRQSN Series is produced by JCR in partnership with NBC Digital Health Network, which also owns and operates the largest patient education channels in US hospitals, the Patient Channel and the Newborn Channel, for in-hospital education.
