Second Snippet

Medications are ordered to be tapered to protect the patient, when abrupt discontinuation
of the medication would harm the patient (physiological rebound) or present the patient
with unpleasant effects or withdrawal symptoms. By reducing a medication’s dosage in
increments, these reactions can be avoided. Additionally, medications are ordered for
tapering when gradual reduction of a dose will benefit the patient (i.e., tapering
Prednisone).
