TJC New and Revised Laboratory Accreditation Standards
Published: Jul 30, 2012
The Joint Commission recently announced new and revised elements of performance for the laboratory accreditation program. These changes, effective August 27, 2012, were made to better align Joint Commission standards with the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA ‘88).
According to TJC, alignment with CLIA '88 was required as a part of their application for deeming authority for clinical laboratories from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). TJC was granted deeming authority for the accreditation of clinical laboratories for a six-year period in May of this year.
