West Nile Virus Resources from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Published: Aug 23, 2012
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the number of West Nile Virus (WNV) disease cases in people has risen dramatically in recent weeks and the United States is in the midst of one of the largest West Nile outbreaks ever seen. Texas has been especially in hard-hit, where almost half of the cases have been reported. The CDC is working closely with state and local public departments to control the outbreak.
In addition to disease tracking, laboratory studies, technical assistance in education and providing support to state and local health departments, the CDC has resources available on their website for the public and for health care professionals.
The CDC's recently updated West Nile Virus Fact Sheet reinforces the fact that the easiest and best way to avoid West Nile Virus is to prevent mosquito bites.
