Hospital Evacuations - Are You Prepared?

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, reports of how hospitals responded to unexpected power outages and subsequent evacuations demonstrate that preparedness is the key to patient safety during emergencies.
According to several published reports, hospitals in both New York and New Jersey were forced to evacuate because back up power systems failed during the Hurricane. Certainly some of the most compelling images from Hurricane Sandy were the nurses at New York University Langone Medical Center providing manual ventilation for infants as they walked down the stairs to evacuate the hospital.
